History of the company EIRON

EIRON Eisenerz und Rohstoff GmbH was founded in 1987 by Mr. D. Langhorst, the Managing Director of the German based trading house Eisenerzgesellschaft mbH - a subsidiary of the multi-national Metallgesellschaft.

Since EIRON’s foundation stable and long-term relationships to clients and suppliers have been essential for the company. EIRON was between 1987 and 1997 appointed exclusive European sales agent for Australian based Hamersley Iron PTY Ltd. (today part of the Rio Tinto Group).

EIRON’s client portfolio includes:

Bethlehem Steel, Corus Group, Dillinger Hütte, ERDEMIR, Hangzhou Iron and Steel Group, Hebei Iron and Steel Group, Hoagoovens, Huettenwerke Krupp Mannesmann GmbH, Ilva Group, Klöckner, Nippon Steel, NKK, Thyssen Krupp Stahl AG, Stahlwerke Bremen, Salzgitter Flachstahl, Saarstahl, Shandog Laiwu, Usinor, Völklinger Hütte and VoestAlpine.

In 1997 Mr. S. Langhorst took over the company from his father and became Managing Director. Under his leadership EIRON has changed the direction of its core activities, becoming principal to many of its clients; a welcomed decision which has seen EIRON expand the spectrum of its activities to include South America, Asia and the Far East.

Strategic long term supply agreements with various Latin American based suppliers, including C.V.G Ferrominera Orinoco C.A., brought about a significant expansion in the demand for EIRON’s products, particularly in China and the Far East.

In order to provide for the significant expansion, EIRON expanded its global operations significantly, with the opening of several satellite offices to maintain the high levels of service and customer support to its clients:

    • Brazil
    • China
    • Malaysia
    • Mexico
    • Turkey
    • Venezuela

Since its foundation EIRON has sold approximately 170 million metric tonnes worldwide.
